When something goes wrong.
Numbers worth saving
Rinse with clean water. Apply firm pressure with a cloth for 10+ minutes. Elevate. See a doctor if it’s deep, won’t stop bleeding, or shows signs of infection (spreading redness, pus, heat) days later.
Drink water constantly. Put a wet cloth on your forehead. Rest. See a GP if over 39.5°C, lasting more than 3 days, or if you have a rash, neck stiffness, or trouble breathing.
Sit or lie down immediately. Legs up. Drink water or something sugary. Don’t stand too quickly. Call 999 if you lose consciousness or it keeps happening.
RICE — Rest, Ice (20 min on, 20 min off), Compression bandage, Elevate.
This can be serious. Call 111 or see a GP urgently. If you have a rash that doesn’t fade when pressed with a glass, call 999 immediately.
Call 999 or 111 immediately. Tell them exactly what was taken and how much. Don’t make yourself sick unless specifically told to. Keep the packaging.
Cool under cold running water for 20 full minutes — not ice, not butter. Cover with a clean non-fluffy cloth. See a pharmacist or GP for anything larger than your palm.
You are not alone. Samaritans: 116 123, free, 24/7. Text SHOUT to 85258. Call 999 in an immediate crisis. Or call us — any time, no judgement, always.
